The 57th Unity Convention (1997) created and established a Board of
Directors for the Hus Institute for Lay Leadership. That initial Board
consisted of:
• Rev. Skip Stutts, Chairman
• Rev. Larry Koslovsky
• Mrs. Tami Laza
• Mr. James Marek
• Rev. James Heckman, Administrator
Our purpose it to equip Christians for service by deepening their relationship
with Christ through society, experience and study.
This purpose statement is derived from Scripture (Ephesians 4:11-13):
And He gave some {as} apostles, and some {as} prophets, and some {as} evangelists,
and some {as} pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for
the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we
all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of
God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the
fullness of Christ.
The board decided to present a three-part "core" curriculum that consists of Basic Christianity, Faith Sharing and Brethren History and Theology.
Any congregation or organization can schedule the Faith Sharing program. H.I.L.L. is also developing a program for training Sunday School Teachers and a program of Church Elder Training. Other electives under development include Grief Sharing, A Survey of the New Testament and Prayer.
Anyone can request courses you would like to see the Hus Institute for
Lay Leadership offer. If you are interested in suggesting a course,
please contact Jim Heckman.
